Choose Target Type (LCT)
What are Target Types?
The Link Check Tool (LCT) is used to monitor your backlinks and check if they are still active. You can check a large number of links for quality and validity.
To use the LCT you can enter a large list of URLs into the ‘Source URLs’ text area. The Target Type can either be URLs or Domains.
Why you should choose Target URLs or Target Domains?
If you know for certain that:
‘Line1 Source URL’ links to ‘Line1 Target URL’
‘Line2 Source URL’ links to ‘Line1 Target URL’
etc…
You can use the ‘Exact Match’ mode and choose ‘Targets are Pages’
If you don’t know exactly which page on your site a link is going to you can use the ‘Fuzzy Match’ mode. In this case you can choose ‘Targets are Domain (s)’ and the LCT will find them for you.
Technical Details
The unique Fuzzy Match Mode allows you to compare a large number of source URLs with one or more target URLs/ domains.
The Exact Match Mode checks every entered source URL with the corresponding target URL.
Start an LCT report – from the “Start report” dashboard:
If you have the same number of Source URLs and Target URLS you can go ahead and select "Targets are pages" and "Exact Match"
If you unsure of the Target URLs you can use Fuzzy Match Mode:
If the number of source and target URLs do not correspond, the tool automatically suggests a
so-called fuzzy match and will advise that the Target type is a domain and not a page:
In this case you should change the settings as per LCTs suggestion:
This mode checks all possible source and targets URL combinations, so it takes a bit longer than the Exact Match mode.
